Political Financing Audit Service
WHAT
CPAET’s Political Financing Audit service provides an independent audit for political financing returns where an audit is required under applicable election laws.
Audit services are offered separately from filing services to maintain professional independence and objectivity.
WHEN
An audit may be required based on: Election jurisdiction (federal, provincial, municipal); Entity type (candidate, EDA, third parties, …); Financial thresholds defined by election authorities. Audit requirements are typically confirmed after the election, once financial activity is known.
HOW
1. Pre-Election Assessment; 2. Audit Engagement Agreement; 3. Audit Planning & Documentation Review; 4. Audit Execution; 5. Draft Report & Client Review; 6. Final Audit Report & Completion. The finalized return is completed in advance of the filing deadline, allowing sufficient time for review and confirmation before submission.
HOW MUCH
CPAET’s fees for political financing services are structured based on contribution and activity ranges, as well as the complexity and regulatory requirements applicable to each engagement.
WHO
Candidates
EDAs
Third Parties
Other Political Entities
CPAET does not prepare and audit the same financial return. Audit engagements are accepted only where professional independence can be maintained.
Not sure whether an audit will be required?
CPAET offers free pre-election resources and templates to help candidates and other political entities maintain proper financial records during the campaign. Once the election concludes and financial thresholds are known, the appropriate service — filing or audit — can be confirmed and engaged.
